Watch out for imports with used car from dealers in the North East
When buying a used car that has been imported to a dealer in the North East from aboard you will find they are normally much cheaper. This is due to the tax differences and due to the high exchange rate meaning UK residents currently get more for your money.
The disadvantages of importing cars is that the warranties on new cars are not as comprehensive and used car dealers can have waiting lists of up to a year. When buying a used car you also don't have any HPI checks complete so you don't know if the car is stolen, clocked or not been serviced to the correct standards.
Nearly new used cars
As you probably know as soon as you buy a car and drive away with it the cost of it has significantly drops. This is way buying a nearly new used car can save you thousands and often the cars will have low mileage and still be under a guarantee.
Know your legal rights
When you buy a car from a used car dealer in the North East remember your rights.
The law states that the car should be of a satisfactory quality: bearing in mind its age, what it costs and how it was described to you. It should be free from defects, other than what you were made aware of.
If the used car dealer says it is a 2.0 litre and it's is a 1.6 litre you can take the used car back. It's an increasingly common problem as few modern cars don't have engine badges.
The car should do what you reasonably except and what you asked the car to do when talking to the North East used car dealer.
If the used car has a fault or has been incorrectly described, there's a short period after buying it in which you can reject it. You must stop using the car once you find the fault and contact your North East used car dealer. You must follow this up in writing and provide evidence of any problems.
